Introspection

I don't know why everyone insists on reflecting on their life at New Year's. It seems to me that there is no worse time to decide what needs improvement in your life. You've just finished the most stressful month of the year. It's cold, the days are short. Why not sit down and figure out what's wrong with you? Won't that make you feel better?

I vote for May. Weather gets nicer, spring really gets going. Now that's a better time to sit down and reflect on life. May is a time of renewal. Why not decide to become a new you when everything else is new too?

So, if you make your New Year's resolutions and they don't quite work out, try again in May. You may feel more like becoming a new person then.

*Note: I'm not that in to introspection anyway. I try to leave the past in the past (except when arguing with my husband, of course).

  1. Hear Hear! I gave up on making changes becuase it was a new year a long time ago. That's why my friend and I do mottos instead. A guidepost for the year instead.

May is good, but September is my "New Year". I think it has to do with my B-day being on the 4th and when school would start then. It's why we got married in September too.

  2. That's darned funny. Except that the second half of this year has been so crappy anyway, and what can I do to change it? Nothing. I guess I'll have to make some resolutions anyway. I'm going to mall-walk, and I'm going to read a little more.

  3. Great post, and so true. I am not a fan of resolutions, especially after this stress filled holiday.
Happy New Year to you and your family!

  4. Loves it. You're totally right and I love you for it. I tend to NOT reflect on my life today more than any other day, ever. Too much time that could better be spent drinking heavily.

  5. I never do make resolutions for the new year, so I am saved all that useless exercise.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and your comment on my Creme entry. That was a wonderful perspective from your hubby. Even I have been told that God harrases those people more, whom he believes can take it and become even stronger. I guess we all need to put signboards that say - Zero Tolerance Here!

  6. I get to introspect in May anyway because it's my birthday. It's always best doen when people are giving you presents.

  7. I guess it's hemisphere dependant :)

Personally I resolved never to make a resolution many years ago :)
