A Day in the Life...

Here is a sampling of 24 hours of my life:

3:30 pm Doctor's office
Doctor: Hey! How are you! Great to see you! So, what's going on? Last time I saw you, you were talking about...

Me: Yeah. We did a round of IVF last November. It didn't work out, obviously.

Doctor: Oh, I'm so sorry...

6:30 pm My kitchen

Daughter: (*takes knife, slides it in*) Mommy, I thought you were going to grow me a baby in your belly.

Me: I tried, honey. It just didn't work out.

Daughter: (*gives knife experimental twist*) You were supposed to grow me 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Me: I would have really liked to do so, but we don't always get what we want.

Daughter: (*fully rotates knife a few hundred times per second) But I'll be lonely when you die.

Me: Oh, no. By that time, you'll have a family of your own.

11:30 am My Office

Coworker/mother of my daughter's "boyfriend": I just got back from the doctor's and "boyfriend" is going to have a little brother or sister next spring!

Me: Congratulations! That's great!

Clearly the universe is having issues with me this week... Sigh. Hope that's over with.

  1. Sorry for the rough week.

I for one am glad that your IVF did not result in quintuplets, no matter what your daughter thinks she wants.

  2. Oh no. They come in threes, they say, so let's hope all that is DONE.

Have a nice Sunday. A nice, quiet Sunday, with no knives in the side.

  3. Oof, that was a bit much, wasn't it? Hopefully everyone will get of the topic now.

  4. Ouch. Any one of those would've been plenty to be getting on with for the week.

Children especially - bless them, like wolves, they can smell vulnerable and bite it by sheer instinct, I think, not in the least realising what, exactly, they are doing. Because THAT, extra ow. I winced so much for you.

  5. This is why they need to make flasks that look like pocketbooks. Of course that might mean explaining why you are licking the "change pocket" but that would have to be easier than taking a 1,2,3 punch like you just did.

  6. I hate weeks like that, and like the other commenter said, it seems to come in threes... so hopefully it's done for a while!

  8. Oh God. Could the universe have kicked you in the teeth anymore times?

    I'm really sorry.

  9. Aaaah, we must either have the exact same daughter or they have been conspiring on their own secret blogs with each other.

I hope the following 24 hours are better.

  10. I, too, hope that the Universe got all its jabs out of the way in one day.

I like YoYo Mama's idea, too!

  11. sometimes you're the statue and sometimes you're the pigeon. Guess it's your week to be the statue. Hope the rest of this week gets better. Leave it to kids to know exactly where to put the salt in the wound....

    :)
