Show and Tell

I had a great topic for a post this morning on my way to work. However, by the time I actually got to a place where I could write down my idea, I had completely forgotten about it. So instead, I give you

BABY ELEPHANTS! (click to enlarge)

The zookeeper was offering bananas for performance (second picture), but the darker gray elephant was uncooperative. She must be a teenager.

On our first trip to the zoo, one of the elephants had a 5 or so month old baby. It was very distressing because the mother and baby elephant were separated from the father elephant by an electric fence. The mother and father were clearly trying to get back to each other, and spent all their time pacing in front of the electric fence. On this visit, mom and dad were reunited, and the young'uns were on the other side of the fence, happily looking around for food. On the visit just previous to this one, we got there right in time to watch the male elephant poop. My little one talked about that for weeks. There's always something good to see at the zoo!

Check out what everyone else is Showing and Telling!

I hate it when my brilliance is fleeting and never to return...I have confidence that yours will find it's way back to you again.

  4. I bought a tape recorder for the car - so when I had these great blog ideas on the way to and from dropping the kids off at school I could tape them.... Now I keep forgetting the tape recorder!

    Love to you.

  7. I'll never say no to elephants or a good poop story, so hooray for forgetfullness!

One of my favorite elephant memories was the first time I took Big C to the zoo, one of the first animals we saw was an elephant. He was about 10 mos at the time, and was big on saying "Hi Buddy" to everything. He walked up to the edge of elephant pit/area and shouted (top of his lungs shout) "Hi Buddy!" then turned around to me and said "Minta, tell elephant Hi Buddy."

I now embarass him several times a year at the zoo with that story!

  11. We just went to a "big" zoo (we have a small zoo) and there were baby every things. I loved the baby elephant though. It was so cute and playful. How sad they separate the mom and dad, and sweet that they wanted to be together. I watched a docu once where they reunited a group of elephants after years apart and you could just see the excitement in them as they recognized each other and rubbed on each other. It was so heartwarming...and how cheesy is it that it made me emotional?

Anyway, my 2 year old has a poop 'thing' too.

  14. Elephant poop is very cool. Last time we went to the zoo my daughter threw a sippy into the elephant enclosure, I suppose she wanted to offer them a drink. Fun times

  15. Whenever we take el Cinco to the zoo, they are always on "poop watch" and completely lose their shit (ha!) when they catch an animal in the act of pooping. Simple pleasures, right? :)

    Awesome photos!
